Technical Writing

Technical writing is a broad term: its function is to convey information a writer has to an audience that doesn’t (you’ll notice this definition can also encompass creative writing and most forms of communication). Technical writing projects place an explicit focus on audience analysis and perspective-taking, and this skill transfers very well to editing.

Psychology Research Paper & Poster

We (myself and my research partner) developed this undergraduate research project for a psychology class, and it’s certainly the most concentrated display of total effort in this portfolio. I drafted most of the manuscript with the mindset of communicating with a complete stranger to this research field—that means minimal jargon and lay explanations for what jargon is present. My partner and I won that semester’s competitive poster session for the best project and presentation (see below).
